Description
About artist: I am a Wicklow-based artist. My current work concerns psychological effects brought about by use of colour, and how colours can create a state of calm in the viewer. My paintings are totally non-representational, an exploration of painting's capacity to create harmony through colour. In 2023, I completed a study exchange at HDK Valand, Gothenburg, Sweden. In June 2024, I graduated with a First in Fine Art at IADT Dun Laoghaire. My work is included in the OPW State Art Collection and the DLR County Council Collection, and has sold at auction.

About artwork: After COA is part of my Cut-out series of works. This series was my first attempt at transforming the coloured forms of a flat painting into three dimensions. They are made using Medium-density fibreboard. One of the great features of MDF is its extreme uniformity. This is very useful for both cutting and painting each form. The wood contains no knots or rings. The cleanness of colour and line is what I am seeking with this material. A saw blade follows the curved contours of the forms with ease, and the resulting edge is especially consistent. The saw maintains an even line, and the gap left behind is effectively the width of the blade. I see this cut line between the coloured forms as an integral aspect of this work, creating an artificial outline, a spatially deep border to the forms.
